Anne Melville-Blackburn is a visual artist who resides in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area of Texas with her husband, Peter J. Blackburn, also a visual artist, and cockatiel Jasper. She holds a B. A. in Art and Performance from the University of Texas at Dallas and post-baccalaureate credit in drawing, printmaking, and painting from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI). Currently, she teaches high school art at a private school and has helped students gain acceptance into major art schools such as Parsons the New School, School of Visual Arts New York, Pratt, SAIC, and KCAI. Her students have won many as awards in various juried exhibitions, such as Young American Talent.
Anne’s previous experience as a dancer and her training in photography, particularly film and alternative processes, have informed much of her work, in which she explores the passage of time, movement and figures in space. The element of time also informs works which involve the study of natural objects and native plants, along with the relationships between color, translucency and light. Her favorite mediums are soft pastel and charcoal, but she also works with watercolor and gouache, ink, and various printmaking techniques such as watercolor monotype, collagraph, and woodcut.
